Is a cryptozoologist a job?

This lighthearted piece from the Toronto Sun looks at jobs where anyone can claim a professional-sounding title without any real standards. I would like to know who the self-described "cryptozoologist" is who told the author the monster in Beowulf was a T. rex. That would have made for a real short epic.
