Jeremy Wade and the Kraken
I just caught an episode of Mysteries of the Deep with Jeremey Wade via Amazon. I picked this one because it concerns the legendary kraken, at least for about ten minutes. The other segments are forgettable to me, although the beluga inspecting ships in Norway is hyped rather relentlessly. Wade loves to draw people in with dramatic statements, and his deep, accented voice is perfect for that. He tells us of of an encounter by a racing sailboat that may have involved a 10 meter squid (interesting), shows a cool clip of diving with a Pacific giant octopus, and then shows the first two incidents where humans successfully captured giant squid on underwater video. We don't learn much about the kraken we sea-creature aficionados don't already know, but it's worth catching this episode for the video footage and scientists' comments on it.
