Beck's petrel, a seabird not seen since its discovery in the 1920s, has been photographed alive. Israeli ornithologist Hadoram Shirihai was on a ship in the Bismarck Archipelago of the southwestern Pacific when he spotted more than 30 of the birds.
Pseudobulweria becki is classified as critically endangered by BirdLife International, and until now was thought possibly extinct.
